After 5 years of blood, sweat, late nights and literally tears, my husband decided that he really wanted to return to the engineering field full time, which was his qualification field. We felt that we achieved our goals with the business and we were able to sell the travel agency for a good profit.
Within these 5 years I learned everything from business start-up skills, setting up a real business plan, online marketing, SEO, running a service-based business to clients, website development, creative software, editing software and we touched a bit on the social side of blogging. The only social media platform I recall that was used by businesses extensively back then was twitter.
Once the business was sold, I had little choice but to return to the corporate world as we needed a second income. I liked my new work, but I again found myself feeling unfulfilled at a deeper level. I guess I just always knew that I would get back into my own business so that I could control my own time and life.
When I fell pregnant with my eldest, I quit my job because I knew that there was NO way that I was not going to provide for him while he was such a small baby. During this time, I fell in love with a natural product that I was not able to find locally. This sparked my second business idea and I set the wheels in motion. I still run this business today, where I import and sell natural vitamin C powder to retailers in the local market. I enjoy it because it is a business to business model and I enjoy working with corporations too. It allows me to run a business and be home with my kids. I love it!!
But I wanted to do more, I wanted to really have a significant impact. I was asking myself, what have I learnt from my experiences that I can share with others to help them. Everywhere I go I always get told the same thing: “I don’t know how you do it”; or; “You are so lucky that you are able to work from home with your kids”.
These words have resonated with me so much, especially on the hardest days, the days where I even ask myself the question of how do I do it, because I won’t lie, some days are crazy hard. But all of this have pushed me into taking my own story, my own experience, lessons learned and how I was empowered towards another level where I could help other moms who face the same obstacles. This was my chance to make a difference, to share my expertise and to help.
Collectively I have 15years of business experience both in the corporate and entrepreneurial fields.
